All About New York City Skyline

nyc skyline

The NYC Skyline is a sight to behold. Located between Manhattan Island and Queensbridge, it is a sight not to be missed for any tourist who is visiting the City of Lights. It is truly a breathtaking sight. The New York Skyline stretches for about 30 miles. Amongst all the skyscrapers, these are the highest and hence the most visible.

Amongst all the other skyscrapers, the Empire State Building is one of the most recognizable. It was also amongst the first to incorporate the use of electricity. It stands tall at about 6 hundred feet and hence offers a great view of Central Park. At one time, it also had the distinction of being the tallest freestanding building in the world.

Next in the NYC skyline is the 1.6 mile high, nine story steel building that stands proudly on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. This steel building was actually the former campus of the old University of New York. Today it houses the world’s tallest office building. This high rise is also home to some wonderful shops and restaurants.

Next on the list is the United Nations (UN) building which is one of the most famous buildings in the world. A favorite among visitors and locals alike, it is the tallest building in the city by far. It was completed in 1963 and has been the home of the UN for over fifty years.

One of the most high rise structures in NYC is also located in the area and that is the Empire State Building. The original building was designed by architecturally inclined Erector engineer John Kennedy and opened its doors for the first time on Christmas Day in 1960. It cost nearly six hundred thousand dollars to construct and required two hundred workers to work on it. Today it is known as the observation deck.

Of course, if you are looking for something a little less tall or simply want to stay closer to the ground, you can always opt for the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. Both of these skyscrapers are still in the top twenty of the NYC skyline. One is even higher than the Statue although it is a shade less white. Either way, both of these great landmarks will allow you to see both the East and the West coast. You can reach Manhattan in less than an hour from either of these great locations.

If you are looking for even more natural beauty, you might want to look at the Brooklyn Bridge. It is truly a breathtaking site and offers a great view of both the Brooklyn Bridge and the East River. Traveling across the bridge is easy and at an instant you are in another world. If you have never visited Brooklyn before, this is a must see location and also a great photo opportunity.
